The draft of the Los Angeles County LA River Master Plan is LIVE and the County wants to hear from you!

Los Angeles County’s LA River Master Plan envisions 51 miles of connected public open space that provides landmark opportunities to reduce flood risk and improve resiliency, support healthy and connected ecosystems, address potential adverse impacts to housing affordability and people experiencing homelessness, promote healthy, safe clean water, and create jobs while fostering opportunities for arts, culture, and community engagement.

Specifically, the plan identifies:

  • Over 200 potential project sites that will create local jobs.

  • Thousands of acres of publicly-accessible open space that will help address public health issues, especially in the most under-resourced communities.

  • Innovative multi-benefit projects that assist in mitigating future disasters, such as flooding, drought, and extreme heat events, while enhancing ecosystem function.

  • Actions for affordable housing and homelessness, a key initiative to address displacement risk in areas left more vulnerable upon gentrification.

  • A framework for future community engagement to influence projects built under the plan.

The SELA Cultural Center is just one of numerous community-focused projects along the River’s path. Local engagement processes will drive each of the projects identified to meet the specific needs of individual communities, while also reflecting the River's diverse technical requirements.

Additionally, the LA River Master Plan update incorporates and builds on the 2018 Lower LA River Revitalization Plan’s 155 opportunity projects, 7 signature projects, community stabilization toolkit, and other resources, and addresses flood risk, equitable access, healthy ecosystems, arts and culture, impacts to affordable housing, engagement, and local water supply and quality.

We hope you will look over the plan and provide comments over the next couple of months. You can find the Master Plan and all associated materials here: https://www.larivermasterplan.org
