ADVISORY PANEL

The SELA Panel members represent a diverse cross section of SELA community experiences and arts expertise. Panelists will be instrumental in advising on the vision, design and governance of the Center.

In 2023, the California Legislature established the Southeast Los Angeles Cultural Center Development Advisory Panel. Comprising representatives from state, county, and city agencies, along with local SELA arts, education, indigenous tribes and community organizations, the Advisory Panel is charged with developing an operations plan for the Cultural Center by January 1, 2027.

In advance of the January 2027 deadline, the Advisory Panel will complete the following objectives:

  • Advise the project partners on the logistics for completing construction and opening the cultural center to the SELA community by 2028.

  • Develop and recommend a vision for the Cultural Center that supports the existing SELA community, particularly SELA artists of all kinds, including the development of partnerships that support the Center.

  • Establish a work plan to set deadlines for completing the Panel's work.

To achieve this, the Panel will develop an operations plan that includes a proposed operating model with recommendations for an operator or operators of the Cultural Center, along with an analysis of annual operational costs and needs, including potential staffing and maintenance costs.
