Advisory Panel
In 2023, the California Legislature established the SELA Cultural Center Advisory Panel (Panel) to advise on the vision, design, and governance of the SELA Cultural Center. The Panel members represent a diverse cross section of SELA community experiences and arts expertise, and include representatives from the State, County, and city agencies, along with local SELA artists, educators, Indigenous tribes, and community organizations.
The mission and charge of the Panel is to develop a Recommended Operations Plan for the Cultural Center by January 1, 2027. In advance of the January 2027 deadline, the Advisory Panel will also complete the following objectives:
- Advise the project partners on the logistics for completing construction and opening the cultural center to the SELA community by 2028
- Develop and recommend a vision for the cultural center that supports the existing SELA community, including the development of partnerships that support the cultural center
- Establish a work plan to set deadlines for completing the Panel’s workplan
This will be created in partnership with other community members and key partners to ensure SELA communities’ priorities are incorporated throughout the plan. The Panel will also meet on a regular basis, in which members will conduct research, evaluate information, and build consensus around what will be needed for the SELA Cultural Center’s successful operation.
